Bleed Your Radiators
Cold at top, warm at bottom = trapped air. Minutes per radiator, easiest way to improve heating efficiency. Do it every autumn.
Phil & Brad. Clear UK guide.
Start nearest the boiler, work outwards.
Quarter turn only — any more = black water facial.
Check boiler pressure after — should be 1-1.5 bar. Top up via filling loop if low.
Cold at bottom, hot at top = sludge, not air. That needs a powerflush.
Heating ON, all TRVs to max. Let warm up
Check each radiator — note cold tops, gurglers
Heating OFF. Wait 15-20 min to cool
Start nearest boiler: find bleed valve (top corner)
Cloth + container under valve
Radiator key, turn anti-clockwise QUARTER turn
Hissing = air escaping. Hold until water dribbles
Close valve. Wipe up. Next radiator
Heating back on. Check boiler pressure
Confirm all rads heating evenly
