Full Bike Clean & Service Check
A monthly clean keeps your bike running smoothly, reveals problems before they strand you, and extends the life of every component. It's also oddly satisfying.
Covers the full process without damaging components.
Never use a pressure washer on a bike — it forces water past seals into bearings, hubs, and the bottom bracket.
Bucket of warm soapy water + sponge + old toothbrush covers 90% of the job.
While cleaning, check for loose bolts, frayed cables, cracked housing, and worn brake pads. Catching these early prevents roadside failures.
Dry the chain and re-lube after every wash. Water displaces the lube.
Fill a bucket with warm soapy water (washing-up liquid is fine)
Rinse the bike gently with a hose or watering can (NOT a pressure washer)
Sponge the frame, fork, wheels, and seatpost with soapy water
Scrub the chainrings, cassette, and derailleurs with a stiff brush + degreaser
Clean the brake tracks on the rims (or disc rotors with isopropyl alcohol)
Rinse everything clean. Dry with a rag or let air dry
Re-lube the chain (see Module 03)
WHILE YOU'RE THERE: Check brake pad wear, tyre condition, cable fraying
Tighten any bolts that have loosened — stem, seatpost clamp, bottle cage, rack bolts
Check quick-release levers or axle bolts are tight
