Better drainage, fewer weeds, no bending. Simple 1200x600mm tanalised softwood bed. Cheap, durable, no specialist tools.

·

Tanalised timber lasts 15-20 years in ground contact. Untreated rots in 2-3.

·

Stack two courses of 150x47mm for 300mm depth — ideal for root veg.

·

Line inside with weed membrane.

·

Fill 60% topsoil, 30% compost, 10% perlite/sharp sand.

Step by step
01

South-facing, level ground, 6+ hours sun

Cut: 2x 1200mm + 2x 600mm lengths

Cut 4x corner posts from 50x50mm, 300mm long

04

Screw corner posts to end boards

Screw side boards to posts. 2 screws per joint. Pre-drill

Position frame, check level

Staple weed membrane inside and across base

08

Fill with topsoil/compost mix. Water thoroughly

Top up after settling. Plant.
